M/M (Paris)

M/M (Paris) is a partnership between Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag, founded in 1992. Working within the framework and language of design, these artists manifest a diverse practice across the fields of art, music, and fashion. As Alex Coles suggests, "To ask whether it is art or graphic design is already to miss a good portion of the point of M/M's work." Untethered by the structures of disciplinary boundaries, these self-declared graphic designers, who go to an "office" and not a "studio", perceive their professional title, in their own words, as a "strategic creative position". They continue: "Each discipline exists in itself, but it is true that 'transversality' - which means artist's fascination for the applied arts: for fashion, design, architecture, graphic design - gave us the chance from the other direction, to intervene in the field of art."
